"Enlightenment in the 21st Century:
A Western Buddhist's Prognosis for Peace"

Buddhism is a two thousand five-hundred year old peace movement whose core belief system is enlightenment. Many of the issues facing us today also faced Buddha during his life and time. Throughout the world, spiritual communities have created a historical legacy that is now ours to inscribe Western Buddhism upon. We do not have to reinvent the peace wheel. Rather, we should understand our mutual roles and strengthen them accordingly. To the extent that we can define ourselves within one purpose our aspirations will inspire those on Maui and in far away places. This talk is an installment in the process of transcending race, class, and cultural differences as well as finding the through-line of spiritual belief systems that can lead to peace for everyone. Specific instruction on maintaining optimism and relief from despair in these difficult times will be given. Please join us.
Lama Rangdrol is the spiritual head of RainbowDharma, an organization dedicated to providing transcendent teachings to peacemakers. He believes that the path to peace begins with promoting sanity through personal transformation. Peace communities must strengthen themselves as a response to increasing turmoil in the world. Lama Rangdrol's work is receiving acknowledgement in America and abroad.
He is a published author whose essay "War is Obsolete" chronicles his experience as a surviving son of a veteran who was hospitalized indefinitely for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Known for his clarity of insight and for his lively responses to questions from the audience, he is emerging as an international voice for peace. Lama Rangdrol lives in Kula and has been teaching in Maui for the past year.
